We want to welcome you to World Wide Knives website, an evolving and growing online effort of owners William and Janice Lewis of Columbia, South Carolina. World Wide Knives traces its roots back to 1996, when William and Jan opened their first business, Swansea Small Engines, in the little town of Swansea, SC. William, a Master small engine mechanic, was ready to strike out on his own and the small engine business seemed like the place to start. Before long, Swansea Small Engines expanded to include outdoor gear and hunting supplies, and became known as Swansea Small Engines and Sports. It was during this time of expansion that William and Jan decided to try offering inexpensive pocket knives to their hardworking rural customers. They placed the knives in a jar labeled "Your choice, $5.00", next to the register, and sold out of the first batch within two weeks. From there, knife sales snowballed, and William and Jan became very knowledgeable salespersons in the field of production cutlery. In 1998, Swansea Small Engines and Sports closed its doors, and William and Jan went on the road to trade shows all over the country selling cutlery and military surplus. When the internet boom kicked in, World Wide Knives.com was born largely through the efforts of Jan, who manages the online business today. Our staff is small to keep overhead low and allow us to offer the finest in production knives at deeply discounted every day low prices, so it is most likely Jan you will speak with if you call to ask a question or place an order.
